Management Team Profiles
Christopher Johnson, MD, MPH
Co-Founder, Chief Scientist
For the past 10 years, Dr Johnson has led initiatives to understand how informatics technology can be integrated into physician workflow, improving the interfaces among acute care, ambulatory care, physician practices, consumers and underlying technologies.
After receiving his MD from the University of California at San Diego and a Masters in Public Health in Health Policy and Administration from the Harvard School of Public Health, Dr Johnson developed a series of physician applications that formed the foundation for the unique MD-centered workflow of the Symphony concept, including an inpatient application with over 17,000 patients admitted and a custom-built EMR solution used for over 21,000 patient visits.
For the past four years Dr Johnson has consulted with Catholic Healthcare West in the implementation of CPOE across a series of community hospitals. That effort has included leading the creation of over 350 physician order sets, developing a knowledge maintenance process and designing decision support rules for early case detection of critical diagnoses. Dr Johnson has also led efforts to create novel methods for sharing content across over 250 hospitals and has spoken nationally on innovations around physician order set design and knowledge maintenance.
In addition, Dr Johnson completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Medical Informatics at Stanford University, publishing research on the cognitive thought processes of physicians when planning treatment for complex patients, and how such cognitive processes can be supported with current CPOE technologies. This research has directly informed the Performance Clinical focus on intelligent and intuitive support of physician workflow.
